Using PinnaPetta
PinnaPetta lives in your menu bar. Convert and edit files with the petal wheel, menu bar, main window or Shortcuts, and save public videos with Download from Link.
The petal wheel
- Start dragging one or more files.
- Hold ⇧ for conversions, or ⌥⇧ for tools. Change either in Settings ▸ Gesture.
- Drop on a petal. To cancel, press Esc, let go of the keys, or drop outside the wheel.
Conversions need files of the same type. Create PDF, Merge PDFs, Join Videos, Create Collage and Read QR Codes take several files at once.
Menu bar and main window
Drop files on the menu bar icon to choose an action from a menu. Choose Open PinnaPetta for the main window, where you can drop files, browse tools, follow progress and find earlier results in Activity.
Download a video or its audio
- Choose Download from Link… from the menu bar, the File menu, or Home. The keyboard shortcut is ⇧⌘D.
- Paste a public YouTube, X/Twitter, TikTok or Instagram video link.
- Choose MP3 · Audio or MP4 · Video. MP4 video is saved at up to 1080p; portrait video is supported.
- Choose a destination folder and click Download. Progress, cancellation and the completed result appear in Activity.
You can close the download window while work continues. Use Download Again in Activity to restore a previous request. If a filename already exists, PinnaPetta adds a number.
Downloads handle one public video at a time. YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and supported direct video posts work; playlists, profiles, channels, active live streams and videos that require sign-in do not. For posts containing several videos, only the first item is saved. MP3 output requires an audio track.
If a download fails, check that the link opens a public video without signing in. Deleted videos and platform restrictions, including regional or age restrictions and rate limits, can prevent a download. The app doesn’t read browser cookies or bypass these restrictions.
Finder, Shortcuts and Spotlight
Select files in Finder, Control-click, and choose Services ▸ Convert with PinnaPetta. Open With and dropping files on the Dock icon work too. In Shortcuts, PinnaPetta adds Convert Files, Run File Tool and Read QR Codes, which you can also pin as Finder Quick Actions.
Where results go
Results are saved beside the original, with a number added if the name is already taken. Originals are never changed. To collect converted files in one folder instead, open Settings ▸ Output. Link downloads use the folder you choose in the Download from Link window.
Troubleshooting
- The wheel doesn’t appear. Make sure Drag Gesture is turned on in the menu bar menu, and that you’re holding exactly the keys set in Settings.
- “Can’t save here.” The folder may be read-only. Choose an output folder in Settings ▸ Output.
- Something else? Email support@pinnapetta.com and include the message shown in Activity.
